I would love to see Nichijou on that block.
I think the humor is palatable to most people, and it does have that same vibe as other anime favorites like Azumanga and Lucky Star, where between laughs you get human moments that is done so well, almost tear-jerking.
I just think it’s time for anime to take its best foot forward to show the world with their comedy and I think Nichijou is it.

Well I am sure that her years of experimentation at the hands of the Church and the fact what she was a back street driver while Rao consumed her village hardly helped her worldview.

Narbareck being a twisted SOB and her superior at the Burial Service probably did not help as well.

I saw Ciel more of a “No time for love Dr. Jones” character who might have been a romantic if she was not utterly obsessed with killing Rao. It just so happens that love ran into her on a mission. But it is just one of those things that really depends on how you read things.

I wonder how much Shiki having the “Tohno Gland” partially has to do with Takeuchi’s instances about what sells in Visual Novels. The more I read interviews the more I realize how influential he was on the sexy parts of Tsukihime.

The odd things is Sakura, Ciel, and Arc are all junk in the trunk characters who oddly never draw much attention to that fact.

Rider on the other hand does little to conceal this fact.

I always thought that Kariya´s intentions were pure and selfless. I saw people say the same things in different forums and webs, but now I think that no matter how good his intentions were, his motivations were selfish in the end. And now I`m confused. He always claimed he did it all to save Sakura and now we learn that Aoi was his true motivation the whole time.

Shinji´s father deserved to be owned by Kiritsugu. He was a total bastard to Shinji (and just at the moment of his mental breakdown) in his flashbacks in Heaven Feel.

Ciel wears loose clothing, though, so she loses out to Arc’s sweater puppies that are always on display. And all the Tsukihime heroines wear relatively long skirts, so the hips don’t get accentuated much.

I already talked about the hate for Sakura at length: For some reason I cannot put my finger on Ciel is also just as unpopular. All in all fans talk quite a bit less about Tsukihime so it is a bit harder to determine why they don't like Ciel. But hating on Ciel has almost gotten to the point of being a meme. She does have quite a bit of swerve in her curve. You would think that would make her more popular but apparently like Sakura that is not the case.

I guess this one and only one time fans decide to to be totally shallow as a general rule.

As long as the Curry is not in the 20%.

You can disagree about the sexiness of the Seventh Holy Scripture or some such. That is fair. To each their own.

Narutaki and liked Tiger and Bunny a lot. I know some people thinks it takes a few episodes to kick into gear. Also Barnaby can be a bit grating for the first half. And some of the side heroes get overlooked. But other than that it is just darn fun. It is on Hulu for now so you might as well give it a look if you live in the US.

Quick comment. Although I own all of Darker than Black season 1 I have never watched it. There is no super pertinent reasons for that. I will get around to it eventually. It is more finding a place in my schedule for it.

But it seems like a solid choice. I have just never watched it so I would never think to put it on a list.

Sakura is great. Ciel..well I can certainly see where you’re coming from, but I found her behavior (falling in love at all, much less so early in the story, among other things; it was what reinforced the idea I’d always had of Shiki being unnaturally attractive, even more so than your usual harem lead) to be inconsistent with what I’d expect from an experienced, immortal, top-level assassin. It’s shallow reasoning on my part, I know. I have to replay Tsukihime to reinforce it or to throw it away though.

Akiha is my favorite Tsukihime heroine, but Ciel always fascinated me in a way unlike the other characters. Her tragic past seems a little more relatable than the others’, because she really was just a normal girl who was unfortunately selected and cursed randomly to immortality. I enjoy seeing her pull off her moves in Melty Blood, as a human among monsters, and I’d love to see an action focused Tsukihime prequel that tells her story during her years as an Executioner before she met Shiki. Was her transformation into hardened cynic immediate, or did she suffer through more adventures?

Darker Than Black also has one of the best episode starters in my opinion. Definitely a great show :)

I know it’s a few years old now, but I think that “Darker Than Black” would be a good show to put into schedule. It’s got all the superficial “anime-esque” surface details, but has the obvious hook of being very inspired by Western genres like superheroes and film noir that neophytes can easily latch on to.

I agree w/majority of your choices. I actually made a post about Toonami & how I think it’ll fail even though I like it. But who knows maybe it’ll last a while. Mirai Nikki was so dayam epic. I haven’t seen tiger and bunny though…keep hearing a lot about it. Is it that good…?

I am always surprised what flaws and sins we are willing to overlook in the one we care about and what flaws we see amplified in the ones we hate. You will also be shocked how much vitriol bubbles up when you feel betrayed by someone you previously cared for.

I assume that Kariya just always assumed that is was totally a decision made by Tokiomi as it made him feel better.

Oh yeah. Shinji’s father was just never someone we ever saw. The few times he is mentioned offhandedly we never actually saw him.

I’ve always though that if Kariya’s really out for revenge, it should be dealt equally to both parents. It was clear since the first episodes that he doesn’t agree, but the end result’s all that matters, so I’m a happy (and a very cynical) camper.

Apparently Shinji’s father was just as magically and generally inept as his son. I guess Zouken gave his descendant a chance in the 5th War just to enjoy some suffering, the same thing he does with Kariya in this one.

I’m sorry that I wasn’t clear before. Edgar got the the earldom at the end of the first light novel. I do agree that 4 episodes are a bit short. The whole series is more about his back story and other secrets. So getting to earldom seems to be one of many adventures.

I liked the first book of the manga and I’ll pick up more. Two light novels to get to the earldom is a lot more time than two manga volumes or four episodes of anime so it isn’t surprising that it feels too condensed.

I haven’t watched The Earl and The Fairy Anime, but from what I’ve read about the light novel and the manga from kagedreams at livejournal (which has some translations and summaries in case you’re interested in reading more). Edgar got his earldom by the end of the first volume of light novel and the first 2 manga volume cover that. The light novel has 20+ volumes and just entered the last arc. I think the banter between Edgar and Lydia is entertaining and Nico is pretty funny.
