Being a relatively new fan my experience with Princess Knight prior to my reading it was quite different. I first heard of it along with many of other famous Tezuka works through Helen McCarthy's excellent book "The Art of Osamu Tezuka" reading this book instantly made me a Tezuka fan. So upon hearing the news that it had been licensed by Vertical Inc. I was quite ecstatic simply on the grounds of the fact more Tezuka manga being released.

I agree with Narutaki's point that Hecate was quite an interesting character and I think part of this was due to her being contrasted with her mother who just wants her daughter to be married and possess a girlish heart. Her mother Madame Hell being such an archetypal villain only emphasized this. At times it almost felt that she was out of place especially when it is made obvious how much value the other female characters placed on being married. It is admirable how he goes to great lengths to sticking with her convictions mostly by defying her mother and helping Sapphire and the Prince of Goldland (There are some really great names in this manga).

Great post guys! I'm looking forward to anymore Tezuka related posts and of course the other posts.

While I have little experience with the earlier Zelda games I am inclined to disagree with the notion that the first game was the best. From your description of the article it seems like that the writer was taking a extreme stance on the matter. Personally out the ones I have played Windwaker was definitely the most enjoyable the visual style is stylized to the point where it still looks good today and the openness of the world was another appealing factor. But I never felt the need to scrutinize every single wave on the admittedly vast ocean in the game.

I agree wholeheartedly with your overview of that guy's article. It's just another unhappy fan being upset that his favorite franchise isn't filling his needs anymore. If one becomes a brand slave like that, there's not much that can be done to dissuade them.

Ironically I'm engaged in a discussion with older anime fans complaining about Yamato 2199 right now. It's a similar instance of people not being fulfilled by something they once loved.

ps Link's Awakening is the best ever <3

Yeah I pretty much disagreed with almost every point he made. I also did not beat Link to the Past in three days. I find not having some kind of hint, a flaw in the original Zelda. Who wants to poke at walls for hours listening for the one that sounds different. That is tedious to me. I feel like this guy would have more fun doing a crossword puzzle than playing most modern games. Which is messed up cause a lot of modern games are fun as hell. I don't need a game to be excessively hard to be fun. Yeah that guy either has total rose-colored glasses on or

The thing that I really disagreed with though was that Zelda doesn't need a story. Bull fucking shit. The story is half the reason I can even get into the game. Link's journey to become a real hero is good through several games and I am particularly fond of Twilight Princess which takes it's story to new emotional heights. It also has a decent focus on swordplay. Especially if you do the cave of trials which is pretty much nothing but swordplay with very little healing.

Spice and Wolf features a relationship that handles a very similar age and race issue as Crest of the Stars. You come for the medieval economics, but stay for the furry demigod love.

3 anime series where love for the main character didn't work out:

Honey and Clover

The Caves of Steel was one of the last books I read last year and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It works fantastic as a detetive story set in the future (proving that technological advancement does not have to be a hindrance to orthodox detective stories). Especially the fact that the three laws of robotics are so integral a part of the plot is what makes this such an amusing read, something mirrored in series like Death Note and Liar Game.

Well from what I understand it is a money issue because they lady is crazy. She wants a large sum of money and has a bunch of stipulations. The people who had the money for the show could not handle the stipulations and the people who could handle the stipulations did not have the money. So overall it just means that we will not be getting The Rose of Versailles until someone a little more reasonable in in charge of her properties.

I honestly laughed when I read Dan Buckley claiming that Marvel doesn't do crossovers. I can only imagine the meeting where they came up with that rebranding, and the twisted anti-logic that they had to give birth to to convince themselves. This is the sort of thing that's really burning me out on American comics...

I might try the new Eureka 7 anime, despite the fact that the kids from the original were so obnoxious I kept hoping they'd fall out of the spaceship and die a very squishy death.

I've tried watching the first "Eureka 7" twice now, and I just can't stand it. And the weird thing is, I can't even put my finger on what it is about it exactly that bothers me (besides the obnoxious children that is; but it's not like E7 is the first show to write children that way). And that's probably what bothers me the most about it, the fact that my dislike of it is so irrational. It seems like a show that I SHOULD like, but I just end up hating the main characters and getting annoyed with the show, even though there's not good reason. So maybe this will do it for me. Or at least let me put my finger on what bothers me about "Eureka 7" so much.

The Rose of Versailles is the clearest example of the author being INSANE therefore preventing an English release. I fully admit sometimes there are problems that we can't see on the fan side of things.

Also as that article states there is a good deal of problems for a publisher as opposed to a developer.

To be the Barbara kickstarter has shown be it COULD be done. It would take someone actually at a publisher to run the numbers and try and broker the deals to determine SHOULD it be done. I understand that not every plan that looks good superficially is actually a good plan practically.

I admit I might be utterly naive in this sense. I don't know the finances involved nor the politics. But it is worth bringing up to see what story of support it would have.

If they don't try something like this I am sure there are legitimate reasons why they can't/won't. But you never know until you try. I want a legitimate version of Fate and my brain is determined to find a way to make it happen that does not require a company to go out of business or for me to win the lottery.
