Hello Everyone! Hisui and Narutaki here. We finally made it to the 4th round of the Aniblog Tourney! As promised, at every level of the tournament we will reveal something amazing. Now that we made it this far, we can unveil the secret project we have been working on behind the scenes for quite a while. It has been over a year of negations to get this all in place but we are now starting a most unusual Kickstarter with the latest bracket of the competition. The question is what are we raising money for?

The Reverse Thieves anime! That’s right. The dream of an anime based on the blog is finally close to a reality.

Conventional wisdom says that you can’t just call up Japan and get them to make an anime for you. While this is usually true, it is not necessarily a hard and fast rule if you have the right connections. Thankfully after working on the blog for almost five years we were able to make a deal to get the story of the Reverse Thieves made into an anime by studio Madhouse.

Through various contacts at Otakon, we were able to pitch our origin story (which we presented to you all in the last round of the Aniblog Tourney) to Masao Maruyama. And he loved it. Since then we have been in correspondence about the project. All the details are not set in stone but we finally have the authorization to talk about some of the things planned for the project.

The Secret Origin of Reverse Thieves: Aniblog Tourney

June 4, 2012

Bribery! It is more than just the lubricant that makes bureaucracy function.

As it was eloquently stated in Freakonomics the study of incentives and how to influence people’s decisions is a fascinating science. Everything we do is determined by which decision will give us the greatest overall payoff. And in that spirit, I pledge that every round we win will present our readers with a more fabulous Aniblog Tourney post. By making it to round three you have unlocked the previously untold story of the formation of the Reverse Thieves Detective Agency complete with original artwork. Just imagine what wonders await you if we can make it even farther.

Reverse Thieves: Case File #000
A Woman named Hisui. A Detective named Narutaki. A Dance named Danger.

It is a mater of public record that the Reverse Thieves anime blog began in July of 2007 with a post about MangaPods (an idea that thankfully never really went anywhere). But if you had told anyone a year before the first post that the world’s cleverest detective and the underworld’s sliest thief would work together they would have laughed in your face. But in 2012 you could not imagine a world where that was not the case. The question is how did these two seemingly incompatible forces of nature come together. Today we learn the secret history of one of the greatest duos in the anime blogosphere since Kamina and Simon teamed up to write that blog together. (I hear something happened to Kamina so that he had to stop writing.)

Just Think of Tomorrow: Aniblog Tourney

Anime and Manga are in trouble. Sales are down across the board and no one knows how to change that. Innovation is dead and all we see are copies of copies being sold as new ideas. Your favorite genre is all but forgotten. For some God forsaken reason, they brought back To Love-Ru.

The blogosphere is divided. Old school VS. new school. Moe fans VS. mecha nerds. Otaku VS. Fujoshi. Nichibros VS. Nichijou. There are only roving tribes of angry warriors in the hellish post-apocalyptic blogging landscape.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

-William Butler Yeats, The Second Coming

In this time of troubled partisan politics, you need to vote for an aniblog you can trust. An aniblog that stands up for the titles you hold dear. An aniblog with the integrity and experience to brave the storm and hold the course. The only aniblog that has that leadership ability is Reverse Thieves.

With almost five years of blogging experience the Reverse Thieves have a proven track record that speaks for itself:

Their biography shows them to be simultaneously devoted patriots and free thinking radicals in the community.

They are proven friends to the shonen, seinen, shojo, yaoi, mecha, hentai, and yuri communities.

They are noted scholars on the topics of screen tone, page layout, symbolism, sex, and crime.

They are statesmen that have not only moved crowds with their own podcast but reached out their hand in friendship to others as well.

They are also tireless ambassadors to neighboring nerd communities, having done work with comics, movies, television, toys, and video games as well.

A vote for the Reverse Thieves is a vote for a better blogosphere.

Report #156804000: Aniblog Tourney Round 3

June 7, 2010

TOP SECRET – FOR GIN’S EYES ONLY

Subject: The Progress of the Detective Duo known as the Reverse Thieves in the Aniblog Tourney.

Briefing: It seems that despite the combined efforts of various low-level agents of the Organization, Hisui and Narutaki have progressed to the third round of the Aniblog Tourney. Our attempt to kidnap Kohaku in hopes of using her as leverage to force the Reverse Thieves out of the tournament merely lost us the lives and more importantly the resources of ten skilled agents. The three assassins we sent after Narutaki were equally ineffectual and have aroused his suspicions more than before.

My cover is still intact despite a close call in Berlin. I cannot observe them too closely or I will surely compromise my surveillance. I have filed the following information on their former cases in hopes that there is some clue to their weaknesses within: The Reverse Thieves Dossier for the Aniblog Tournament

Conclusion: I fear that every report puts them one step closer to uncovering the truth. It is my opinion that only you can dispatch these two meddlesome gumshoes. The longer they are in the tournament the greater the chance they will discover our involvement in the proceedings. We cannot assume that no matter how well camouflaged our involvement that detectives of their prowess will not discover something that would be detrimental to our overall goals.

Until your response I will send as many agents as possible to the Aniblog Tourney in order to thwart their efforts.

Here is the link to the voting for Round 3.
