The Tokyo Youth Ordinance Bill was passed at the end of 2010 and goes into effect this April. It has been a controversial bill in the anime and manga communities for both the U.S. and Japan. Is this a bill that will act as a savior that clears the industry of harmful perversions or is it a stifling straitjacket on the creativity of a medium? We talk about the history of the bill, the facts and misconceptions surrounding it, and what we think ramifications of the bill will be.

In many ways the American taste in anime has that same simple immutable nature. We look at the origins of American taste, how they have grown and changed, and how they compare to the Japanese and their preferences. Also Hisui goes on a rant about people’s viewing habits like an aggressive self-help book.

How does the number one shonen franchise in Japan become a third tier property here? We will be looking at One Piece’s popularity in Japan, why it is so good, and what we think is holding it back.
