All Points Bulletin: LEGO Minecraft

March 4, 2012

If you have any suggestions for what to highlight on an APB drop us a line via email or Twitter.

Narutaki’s picks:

  • Gundam RX-78-2 Cosplay
    Blows my mind!
  • Lucy Liu Will Play Sherlock’s Watson
CBS’s upcoming series Elementary is having details and cast revealed slowly. This new casting choice, you won’t be surprised to know has been received with mixed reactions, but I am really positive about it. More than anything I want this modernized version of the sleuthing duo to differentiate itself from the (fantastic) BBC rendition.
  • This May Have Convinced Me to Play Minecraft
Some very hard-working Minecrafters have been working on the world of Westeros from A Game of Thrones. The details in their King’s Landing build are startling.
  • Amazing Star Wars Products That Were Never Made
I think my favorite is the R2-D2 wet bar, that would fit in to any home theater! The Cantina 2-liter soda dispenser is interesting but odd, and seems hard to clean. The Han Solo popsicle mold makes the most sense, and to be fair they do have ice cube trays of it.

Hisui’s picks:

More robos is always good.

All Points Bulletin: Racing to the Theater for the Trailers

Narutaki’s picks:

  • Happy Birthday, Mickey Mouse!
    The 18th was Mickey’s 83rd birthday!
  • New Trailers

    • Pixar’s Brave
I love it already! It is fantasy, it has a cool female protagonist, the animation looks breathtaking. June is much too far away!
    • The Hunger Games
If you aren’t looking forward to this, well then I am sad. I was a big fan of the book and by the look of things they are staying true to the vision. I felt less happy with the second and third books, but for right now I can just revel in the fantastic going into work bringing the first to life on the big screen.
    • The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
I always like Daniel Craig so I was interested in this, but after seeing the trailer I’m very excited. A big international bestseller, which I haven’t actually read yet, but looks to be a stunning mystery.
  • Tiger and Bunny Get Films
Many of us have been wondering where this surprise phenomenon of the year was going next and now we have an answer. There is no mention of the story, but we can all just be happy they are happening. Is it too much to ask for a Sky High focused movie? And the internet can hopefully stop complaining about the CG since this will presumably have a film budget?
  • Toy Story Fashion
These Toy Story inspire fashions from Japanese designer bossini 系列 are pretty rad. I especially like the Slinky Dog muffler!

Hisui’s picks:

In hopes of his own movie!

Redline: Always Bet On JP

August 29, 2011

For quite sometime I’d been hearing the life altering power of watching Redline so when the opportunity arose to finally see it, one does not waste time! Redline is one of those movies that reminds you of what anime is capable of beyond live action so consequently it also reminded me why I fell in love with anime in the first place. It isn’t hype, Redline is just that amazing a ride.

When only a handful of the English-speaking anime fans had seen Redline there was a good deal of contention about how much of its reputation was hype and how much of it was real. Tim Maughan was quite evangelical on the Internet which lead to a great deal of both extreme expectations and equally extreme skepticism (and often in the same people). People hoped that it was the perfection of an older and more extravagant form of animation. At the same time the long-delayed production schedule and strange release made people worried if it would be a bloated piece of retro nonsense. But now that everyone has a legitimate (and therefore less than legitimate) means to watch the film the general consensus is: it is awesome. All the promises made were true if not somewhat underplayed. Redline crossed the finish line in glorious form.
