Since posting about my first game session, I’ve gotten a number of questions about the game itself and the party and story, too. While I have done my best to answer people, I’m also going to post longer and more detailed answers here. This post will server as a little Q&A and I may do another down the line if I get more questions, you get how this works.

Captain Jack Will Get You High Tonight
As with my first post I decided that these little story updates for our D&D campaign would work better as little pieces of in-game writing. I could easily rattle off what happened in a blow-by-blow manner but that mostly comes off as mechanical.
But at the same time in-character posts are limited to what the characters involved with them would see. This post is a ship’s log from the captain of the vessel where the first game centered around. So while he is aware of the major fights on board the ship he was unaware of events like any of the private conversations that went on in the various passenger’s rooms or characters being stealthy in the background.
So while a lot of the little details might be lost I think for the overall feel of the game these notes just seem more fun. But if you are passionate either way let me know.
Letters from Atman: My First D&D Campaign Pt. 2
Thus the adventure commences! We began sort of mid-stride, our mercenary group had sent our party on a delivery job. We were already on board a ship on our way to meet our contact.
After Hisui explained the mission, the situation, and the ship he turned to us and very simply said “So, what are you doing?” At this point, I had no idea what to do, I felt like a deer in the headlights! Luckily, some of my friends were much more ready to jump into character which gave me time to observe. Even after that though, I had a hard time figuring out what my character would be doing. It was a lot easier to react to people and situations than for me to initiate anything.
Having written a lot of back story and descriptions beforehand, playing was so different. I had to think on my feet and I don’t think I fully succeed. The infinite options is what is both cool and terrifying about the game. Since we ended the session as we were coming into port, I am going to come up with a few things my character might be doing before we play again.
