Welcome to (the first half of) our annual awards post. This post will be in our picks and tomorrow we will post all the guest selections to see where they agree and disagree with us. As always, this posts is mostly to remind us and the readers what was great about this year in anime. If you just focus on the shows like Bikini Warriors, Overlord, and Vampire Holmes you will tend to remember the year as a very depressing affair. But the goal of Reverse Thieves has always been to separate the wheat from the chaff and show you the best parts of the medium. Consider this a culmination of 2015.

All the Titles Fit to License, 2015 Edition

Not a year goes by without a few surprises. Everyone will remember where they were when they heard that, first, the Legend of the Galactic Heroes novels were licensed, then the anime was licensed mere hours later. Big sports series are finally, finally getting another chance in the U.S. with Kuroko’s Basketball, Haikyu!!, and Yowamushi Pedal manga all being picked up. Yen Press decided to up the light novel game here in the U.S. with long-running titles like Durarara!! and Baccano! among others.
In years past, the ratio of anime to manga licenses was pretty even, but 2015 has seen a sharp departure from that. With a little more than 130 anime licenses, manga easily trounces anime with more than 200 titles picked up. This is probably due to many more digital only releases of manga.
As a reminder, this list does not include streaming-only anime and manga. And as always, let us know if we missed anything.
