The Speakeasy: A Reverse Thieves Podcast – Drink #007

Anime 3000 presents The Speakeasy Podcast:
Drink #007: Official OUFC (Oxford United Football Club) Drink, Get into the game!

Sports manga and anime are some of the most popular staple series in Japan along side such institutions as shonen fighting and school romance. Almost any sport has at least one series centered around it with many sports like baseball, boxing, and soccer getting several every year. The classics of sports titles are influential on Japanese media and culture as seen by constant references, parodies, homages, and allusions. But why are sport series so well received in Japan but essentially ignored in the U.S.? What about the genre as a whole is so poorly perceived when it contains such a wide variety within? And we hopefully give people some good series to start watching/reading sports series!

Plus, a second giveaway for our birthday! Listen to the episode to learn how to enter! This contest is over.

If you were ever curious about our conversations that are the genesis of our posts then this will be utterly enlightening. If you never wondered about that, hopefully you will still enjoy the show!

Drink #006: The Black Russian and the White Russian, The Art of Adaption

A majority of the anime produced is based on a preexisting work. A good deal of shows are adapted from manga but there is also anime based on light novels, video games, literature, and even some more unusual sources. But not all anime is adapted equally. Assuming that the source being adapted is solid what makes a good anime adaption and where can adaptation go wrong? We will be talking about the different philosophies used in adapting manga and the strengths and weaknesses that comes with any strategy. We will also try and discover why the adapting an anime into a manga seems to fail so often.

Old School vs. New School Anime Rap Battle

Continuing our whirlwind of guest spots on podcasts we made an appearance on the Animeshon Podcast. We discuss one of the most personal and controversial topics you can talk about in anime (that is not fan-subs): which era of anime is the best. We proposed our known belief in the importance of all eras of animation, each having something amazing to offer and things best forgotten in equal measure. All though we do talk quite a bit, we barely scratch the surface of the questions that were asked of us despite everyone on the podcast making some really insightful points. As always these type of discussions are interesting because everyone seems to have their own take on everything.
