A Season of Friendship

I don’t know if I can pin down other season of anime as having a theme. And it probably isn’t intentional, but nevertheless this season has a lot of shows that seems to fit together in a special way. This season celebrates friendship in so many different ways that it heightened my awareness to it in each show. From new friendship (Tsuritama) to teammates (Kuroko’s Basketball), from unexpected connections (Kids on the Slope) to brothers (Space Brothers).

The Internet keeps telling me that friendship is magic and so it seems that this season of anime is here to reenforce that notion. It is not as if anime is unfamiliar with the power of friendship. Most of  modern Japanese society is almost obsessed with the harmony of the group and working together so shows emphasizing solidarity among peers is not unheard of. But I think Narutaki was inspired by this season because even the common place can seem extraordinary if done correctly. This seasons shows have been very good and the bonds of comradery have been shown superbly as well. This article will look at relationships beyond the standard shonen “I beat you up so now we are blood brothers” but at people who form real bonds.

Fate/Zero S2 TV #009: Silent Night, Holy Grail

Angra Mainyu, All the Evil in the World, the corrupting spirit that lives with in the Grail. As its name is invoked in the title of this episode it can only mean that the true essence of the Grail and the Holy Grail War itself begins to unfold in this episode. Kirei has had his awakening to the true darkness that dwells within him so he has no hesitation in bringing and end to the Holy Grail War. The questioning priest at the beginning of the war is gone. Only a monster who wishes the most cruel ending to the war remains in his place. And so the challenge to the remaining participants goes out. Kirei wishes for them to attend his banquet of blood. The Grail itself is only to eager to see his dream come to fruition.

For the Love of Curry

One of the neat things about the addition of random middle of week posts on the blog is I can occasionally talk about silly things that would not normally warrant a full post. I can also post things here as the blog equivalent of a sticky post just so I can link to this instead of repeatedly explaining myself.

I will state this here: My favorite Tsukihime character is Ciel. I know to some people this is incomprehensible because:

A. My icon on Twitter is Hisui.
B. My icon on Twitter is not someone from Fate/Stay Night.
C. No one likes Ciel. (She is always the least popular heroine. There are some Sakura levels of fan hate for her.)

But it is the truth. So I decided to write a little explanation of this phenomenon so I don’t have repeat my reasoning every 6 months.
