  • Gackt Is the Final Boss
Double happy news this weekend! Sengoku Basara will be starting a live-action TV series adaption in July with Gackt playing Oda Nobunaga. It is very weird seeing Gackt with a mustache. Gackt will also be performing the ending song for the series “Hakuro” so that means a new single. I’m reminded that his previous two singles have been for anime/videogames, too.
  • Fix-It-Flex!
Play the game the upcoming Disney movie Wreck-It-Ralph is supposed to be based on. Classic and simple it certainly has an arcade feel. I got pretty far and other obstacles are added as you move up the building, I’m curious if there is an actual ending.
  • You’re Oppressed? Me too!
Great article putting into perspective the idea of oppression VS. someone makes fun of you on the internet. It further delves into how this can actually hurt people in need by creating a desensitized look at oppression.
  • All Spider-Man, All Week
New York City is so crazy, starting Monday, Junt 25th they are devoting a week’s worth of events to the famous webcrawler leading up to the release of the new movie. While my feelings on the film remain conflicted, a week’s worth of Spidey-themed stuff sounds like tons of fun. Signings, prizes, scavengers hunts, museum exhibits, etc.!
  • Feminist Frequency Kickstarter Successful Despite Internet Asshats
I couldn’t possibly come up with a better title. There has been a lot, A LOT, of recent things going on with women and videogames of late. This is one of the piece of it. The Tropes VS. Women Kickstarter campaign has been inundated with some seriously vile attacks, which pretty much prove the point for the need to talk about this stuff. And this is for a series of videos that hasn’t even been made yet. If you have a chance Feminist Frequency has done other really good videos about women in media worth checking out.

Probably did not expect this one:

Narutaki’s picks:

  • JManga Removes Subscription Requirement
This big and wonderful news, so many were afraid JManga wouldn’t change and never get off the ground. I can’t tell you how many people I saw on Twitter say “Now I will use JManga.” I expect the site to see a major jump in traffic in the next couple of weeks.
  • Teen Titans, GO!
The Teen Titans cartoon is returning with new episodes on Cartoon Network in 2013. I’m a huge fan of the series for its stylization, humor, and balanced plotting. It is great to hear most of the original voices will be back as well.
  • The Unfinished Swan
Seems to be my kind of video game: mostly exploritory and simple with an interesting mechanic and stylized visuals. Looks quite unique.
  • Movie News Agogo!

    • U.S. Theatrical Release of From Up On Poppy Hill Confirmed
I’ve been curious about this even though I really didn’t care for Tales from Earthsea.
    • Wreck-It-Ralph Trailer Hits
A movie about a videogame villain really doesn’t sound like Disney, but you’ll be a believer after this trailer. All the cameos are great, only Disney could afford to put them all in there. This year looks to be another double hit for Disney with Brave out this summer and Ralph out in the later fall! I just can’t wait!
    • Batman Marathon at AMC
Similar, but obviously shorter, to the Marvel movie marathon, you can see the first two Christopher Nolan Batman movies as a lead up to the midnight premiere to the final act.
    • Wonder Woman and Justice League Movie Plans Move Ahead
This news is cool but doesn’t inspire much confidence yet, it is still a wait and see game.
    • Upcoming Details on Pixar Films Revealed
Plots for both The Good Dinosaur and the as yet untitled movie that takes place inside the human mind have me very excited. Obviously, dinos are freakin’ awesome and Pixar taking on the prehistoric creatures sounds like a dream come true, now the plot sounds good, too. But I must admit that the human mind one actually sounds even better. Very Pixar but also a little more conceptual. Of course, these movies have to wait until the Monsters Inc. sequel is finished.
    • Guy Richie Plans New Treasure Island Movie
I love Treasure Island, come one you all did from reading it as a kid, right?! Looking forward to more details on this.

Hisui’s picks:

  • There are no limits on MST3K
Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett add a little commentary to some choice video game cut scenes and a clip from Mega Man cartoon. It works pretty well all in all. Worth mentioning they look at THE Sonic 06 scene. You know the one. There can only be one I am talking about.
Also a little MST3K extra for anyone.
  • Food Glorious Food
Manga Out Loud is a triple threat with a look at what the hosts are reading, a banquet of food manga, and a look at doing Americans doing manga. Actually it is more of an examination of what the heck does it even mean when anyone says they are Americans doing manga and the economic realities of the such.
  • The Figure that Index Fan Really Want
That is not just more Railgun.
  • Hunger is the Best Sauce
Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch’s American release has been pushed back to January 22, 2013. But it is worth waiting for a Level-5 game with animation done by Studio Ghibli,

Narutaki’s picks:

  • New York Comic-Con Changes
So they finally decided to do what they should have all along, fold NYAF fully into NYCC and remove the dual names. Starting this year NYAF no longer exists. This seems in line with their hopes to become the SDCC of the East coast. There were also talks about the Javits being demolished in favor of a new convention complex in Queens, but those plans have been put to rest! Personally, I’m much more in favor of continuing construction on Javits and expanding it upwards.
  • I Think I’ll Start Watching Phineas and Furb Now
If you are seeking from sci-fi check out . . . Disney Channel? This is a pretty convincing article, not that I really had anything against the series in the first place.
  • Toy Story 2 VS. RM*
This tale is unbelievable! Told in simple animation is the true story of how Toy Story 2’s final cut was almost deleted.
  • Girls Like Avengers For Story and Hot Guys
This article is dead on. A lot of women feel like in order to be taken seriously you have to eliminate the idea that attraction is any part of your enjoyment for a comic or movie.
  • Mr. Brothers Goes To Fanime
I always enjoy hearing about first time con experiences, in this case David is plenty familiar with comic conventions but Fanime is new territory. It is really interesting to hear his take on things that most of us don’t bat our eyes at anymore like fan-subs being shown or people wearing Nazi uniforms.
  • If X-Men Was on Disney XD
I love these designs, they really look like they’d fit in next to Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. And besides, the X-Men cartoon of the 90’s was a huge influence on a new generation of fans, I’d like to see a new show do that again.
