• The Death Star: Space’s Largest Mall
  The newest Star Wars TV series Star Wars: Detours trailer had me cracking up. This animated comedy is from the creators of Robot Chicken and has a style all its own.
• Going Deeper Than Open Condom Style
  Can’t say I’d have ever guessed about the social commentary within Gangnam Style, but The Atlantic’s great article is a fascinating read. From artist Psy’s brushes with the law in South Korea to South Koreans’ newly acquired obsession with coffee, you’ll surely learn a thing or two from this write up.
• Paving the Road for JRPGs
  This article is part-history and part-tribute to Nintendo Power. It recalls a rare promotion the magazine did in which it gave away the cartridge for Dragon Warrior on NES with a subscription to the magazine.
• “Kids probably never complain about mowing the lawn in Hyrule”
  True dat.

• The Best Rock Opera is a Christopher Lee Metal Opera
  So famous actor Christopher Lee did a symphonic metal rock opera concept album about the life of Charlemagne. I wrote that correctly. It is called Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross. You can get it here. There is going to be a sequel.

• A Fighting Game in the Tradition of Rise of the Robots and Tattoo Assassins
  So they want to make an official Otakon Beat ’em up game and they are funding it through Kickstarter. I am just going to leave this news on the table and walk away. But if someone wants to pledge 2,500 dollars they should make Narutaki their suggestion as a enemy. Not the character from Steam Detectives. Kate. But that might mean no one could ever beat the game.
• The REAL as the Otaku Grows!
  An interesting post examining an article in a copy of Newtype magazine from 2010 with the changes of Otaku since the magazine started. It is a fascinating look on the progress towards the modern otaku. They even look at female fans as well.
• A Gin Joint Jezebel Manga
  Rose Guns Days is getting a manga. This is hardly stunning news as it is based on a 07th Expansion manga. But none the less it is interesting news. I look forward to this non-When They Cry related story.

  • Much Better Than a Wendy Ryder Figure: We finally get to see the sculpt for the MegaHouse’s Rider figure. Now Narutaki needs the Gilgamesh sculpt.
  • Nothing But Male Fate/Zero Figures: This is for you crazy Crunchyroll conspiracy guy.

• Power to the Universe. Power to the Mystery. I Wanna Share our Power!
  It is time to Try Again. The 80s might have had the original Macross music but the 90s had Fire Bomber so it cannot be ignored. I suppose Andrew and Gubaba also talk about Macross II and Plus. I mean Plus had some no name lady do the music. But what is that in the face of BURNING FIRE!
• The Messiah May Have Been False but the Dream is Real
  I was recently informed by jlskun that the news that Legend of the Galactic Heroes was licensed in France was nothing more than a hoax. I know the announcement got a lot of peoples hopes up but it was not to be. At least for now. Hopefully if we keep on fighting we can get a release in the US and France.
• All Ponies Go to AMV Hell
  Another season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic means another round of Ponies: The Anthology. I am always impressed and a little frightened by the amount of effort placed into some of these clips. I will say that 2001 aprdody at the end goes on for a bit too long. Just like the real 2001. ZING!
• Wrapping Up Otakon 2012
  The final Otakon 2012 reports in the APB. The coverage ends but the memories remain.

• The New Scooby Doo! Movie Stars the WWE
  Yes, I just said that and no, I’m not kidding. Personally, I love guest stars on Scooby Doo! so I’m all for bringing that back. Too bad this isn’t happening on Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated instead, now that would be truly amazing! Still this fantastic premise remains: Shaggy and Scooby win tickets to WrestleMania, the entire gang travels in the Mystery Machine to WWE City to attend the epic event.
• If You’re Still Looking for a Reason to Read Saga
  This article should give you the final push to check out one of the best comics of 2012.
• Here’s Why You Love Princess Leia
  Wonderful article about a character that has stayed so popular over time. Leia is a character that lots of women can hang on to in science-fiction and there are a ton of good reasons why including despite being the princess that needed to be rescued in A New Hope.
• Motorcity’s Ratings are Just Fine!
  Many fans of this Disney XD series have been worried over the show’s popularity and future, well the sky sure isn’t falling.

  As much as I try to keep up on animation news, some things always slip by me! I didn’t even know they were making a Toy Story short, but no matter, it looks great and will surely be another memorable vignette from Pixar.
• Team Bloggers Speak Out
  Anti-Social Geniuses ask bloggers about the ups and downs of team blogging. Plus, advice on starting a team blog.
• The Avengers Isn’t Optimistic Just Because It Takes Place During the Day
  Great opinion piece on how The Dark Knight and The Avengers take on themes like cynicism and optimism.
• ParaNorman Knows Graphic Design
  Had seen these plastered around the city, really looking forward to this movie.
• Subscribe to Your Favorite Toy Lines
  This sounds like a great way to go broke, faster than usual for a hardcore toy collector. Still the promises of not having to worry over pre-orders is very attractive.
• Black Jack Coming to American TV?
  I believe the live action American Black Jack TV series was called House, but hey I’m down for a sequel! Okay, so it isn’t the return of House as a wandering unlicensed doctor, but it could still be plenty good. Of course if they try to stick closely to the source material Pinoko will be an interesting problem.

• What the Hey Nonny, Nonny is This? And When Can I Get It?
  I thought that the ending of Penguindrum was fairly conclusive. But apparently Kunihiko Ikuhara still has more madness to give us. And I for one can’t wait to see what that is.
  
• “NEXT TIME, CHIRICO DRINKS HIS COFFEE BLACK, AND IT IS BITTER INDEED.”’
  Armored Trooper Votoms is considered by many to be one on the pinnacles of the real robot genre. But Andrew and Arshad look all the side material produced after the original series. And there is quite a bit of material to look at. By looking at the good, the bad, and the ugly they try to decipher why Votoms has not completely faded from the spotlight but at the same time never became a super star series.
• A Massive Attack!
  After constant listeners demanded it Chaos Theater has finally released a Mass Effect podcast. They go through all three games and sing its praises alongside addressing its failures. Next time they are looking at Satoshi Kon so I know some of you need to listen to that as well.
• Otakon News Roundup
  • Ani-Gamers vs. Panels 2012: A roundup of what the men of the Ani-Gamers though of the various panels of Otakon. Also the Otakon experience through photo memories. 
    
  • There Can be Good Sexism Panels at the Anime Convention?:  A video of the Sexism in Anime Fandom from Otakon. Lauren also has some interesting write ups of parts of the convention I don’t see other people talk about.
