Hisui Dream Diary #3

I don’t regularly remember my dreams or keep any sort of dream journal but I have learned the trick to remembering your dreams is to repeat what happens in the dream to yourself out loud as soon as you wake up. It commits the dream to a longer term part of memory. And so I do not know how often I will be able to write posts like this but I consider this part one of an irregularly updated ongoing series. It is all dependent on when I remember dreams that are worth talking about on the blog.

Just because I documented the greatest dream that will ever be does not mean that the Hisui Dream Diary segment has to come to an end. If nothing else the hits on the blog show that the dream I recently had is far more of a universal dream than anything else that has been documented in this segment before.

Binbougami ga!: Almost a Shojo Manga

OK. That title is certainly a bit exaggerated. You would have to search for quite a bit to find a shojo manga were the main character’s nick name is Tit-chiko (maybe some odd title in Betsucomi). In the end Binbougami ga! is very firmly a boy’s manga with a distinct appeal to dudes. It is in Jump Square for heaven’s sake. It is hard to get more shonen than that.

But the reason I bring this up in the first place is that unlike a lot of shonen titles with a little tweaking you could actually convert the whole Binbougami ga! premise into a popular girls manga.  There is pretty much no way you could remake To Love-Ru as a girl’s manga without some colossal reworking of the manga’s base formula. In fact I might be a little be afraid of any manga magus that could attempt such a feat. On the hand without really changing any of the core principles of the manga (that is not Sakura’s bodacious boom boom body) there is a decent shojo manga premise at the core of Binbougami ga!

From the Earth to the Moon

On August 25, 2012 we lost a man who was a not only a real American hero but a symbol to all mankind. Neil Armstrong, the first man to ever step foot on the Moon, passed away at the age of 82.

We are rather enamored with the idea of space and space travel. Our article in May was a love letter to space and two series dealing with space travel. While the space program has been in decline for a while projects like the Curiosity rover prove there is still some life in the project.

While the Moon is closer than anything else in the universe, it is still so far away. Even at its closest it is 221,600 miles away from Earth. At times it seems so close that you can touch it and at other times it seems completely unreachable. But it has been reached. And it will be reached again. The shows we picked are all visions of that future. Each of us picked three shows the deal with the Moon because while we have reached it, it is still a very mysterious place.

So instead of mourning what has vanished, we will instead celebrate the Moon!
