The June 2013 Line-Up

A little bit of everything this month. The most shocking news to my mind was the announcement of not one, but two, new U.S. anime licensing firms acttil and Crimson Star Media.

I’m still surprised that Little Witch Academia is getting the attention that it did. It is nice to see a something with no real previous fanbase get that sort of attention.

The Line-Up is a monthly rundown of newly licensed in the U.S., newly streaming in the U.S., and newly announced anime and manga projects.

There is Freedom Within, There is Freedom Without

Narutaki pointed out that tweet to me to see my opinion on the matter. It did start making me think of my old post on how I saw One Piece ending all the way back in 2010. There has a been a good deal of story since then so maybe things have changed enough that now my initial theories are wrong or at least not as accurate. Has Doflamingo risen up to be the main antagonist of One Piece? A little less than three years of story can change your perspective.

I still think my initial claim is correct. I think Blackbeard is going to be the final opponent. I have a few reason to back up my theory at this point which I think are still fairly strong.

The problem with the magical girl genre in America is that there haven’t been a lot of titles to hit the states so you think you know the tropes but do you really? While we are hardly scholars on the subject, we try to at least contextualize maho shojo outside of just being Sailor MoonMagical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. We also talk a bit about our favorite titles.

But before we get to what we talk a bit about the Cosplay is Not Consent movement and the bizzaro backlash against it.

30 ml white rum
30 ml Charleston Follies liqueur
lemon juice
Champagne

Shake white rum, charleston follies and lemon juice with ice. Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass. Fill with champagne, garnish with a slice of lemon, and serve.
