Type-Moon Weekly News Roundup: The Epic of Gilgamesh

This Saturday post is the weekly Type-Moon news in addition to the regular APB post on Sunday. If you have any suggestions for what to highlight on the Type-Moon Weekly News Roundup drop me a line via email or Twitter.

  • I Actually Know the Answer to That
The answer is anyone whose legend prominently has them using a bow at some point can be summoned as an Archer. Gilgamesh has the Bow of Anshan and they make a big deal of Shiro being a part of the Archery club for a reason. I mean technically Arturia Pendragon can be summoned as a Lancer due to her ownership of Rhongowennan but that would be weird.
But me being a Type-Moon nerd aside here are some wonderful screen shots of the upcoming Chogokin Archer to complement the Chogokin Saber review I linked to last week. You can preorder him starting April 3rd.
  • The Voice of a New Generation
The voices from the new Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya anime have been revealed. They seem to be the same cast from the Prisma Illya drama CDs. They also released the first two teasers if you want to see that.
  • Time Cast a Spell on You. But You Won’t Forget Me.
It seems that the fox eared Caster finally gets her own manga series in Comp Ace that is tentatively called Fate/Extra Yōko-den. I like they are breaking her out a bit like Red Saber. Hopefully all of them will start hopping over to more Type-Moon projects.
  • A White Wedding in Valhalla
The makers of Valhalla Knights 3 announced that Fate Extra’s Saber’s wedding dress outfit will be a free downloadable outfit when the game is released.
  • Gimme The Prize
What an apropos song for Fate/Zero. But this headline is heralding new prize figures for Fate/Zero and not a Queen version of the soundtrack for the TV series.
  • Fate/Extra CCC Roundup
It is a Roundup inception! A roundup in a roundup that in itself was spun off of the main news roundup! I half expect Leonardo DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to pop up.

    • “Service, Service” as Misato Would Say
A little video about the costume change options came out for Fate/Extra CCC before the laugh this week. There is a distinct focus made on the racy outfits for the female characters. Sadly the guys don’t get to show off their goods so we don’t have Gilgamesh in a swim trunks. I am sure someone is slight disappointed about that.
    • CCC Fight Club
The first rule of CCC Fight Club is you post all the videos you can about CCC Fight Club. And in that spirit the new auto battle feature is being shown off in this Fate/Extra CCC video.
    • A Room of One’s Own
Another part of Fate/Extra that got a make over was the customization of your private room. This latest video shows some of what you can do now to make your digs stylish.
    • Last Hurrah for Chivalry
Just before Fate/Extra CCC comes out they have released an almost 21 minute video showing some large chucks of game play as well as highlighting some of the features mentioned in other videos. Definitely a video that has much more value in if you understand Japanese.
    • Playing Doctor
As with Fate/Extra they added some sexy mini-games to the webpage to celebrate the release of Fate/Extra CCC. In the game you have to nurse Red Saber back to health after she falls ill.
    • Golden Dreams
For the ladies they also made a game on the website with the King of Heroes

Type-Moon Weekly News Roundup: Valkyrie Profile Saber

This Saturday post is the weekly Type-Moon news in addition to the regular APB post on Sunday. If you have any suggestions for what to highlight on the Type-Moon Weekly News Roundup drop me a line via email or Twitter.

  • Super Alloy Arturia
I think that these Type-Moon Weekly News Roundups should easily prove there are quite a few Saber figures made every year. But one of the most powerful Saber figures is Bandai’s Chogokin Saber. This is the real deal Saber complete with die-cast armor.
If you were curious if this new Saber was worth the money Dave Cabrera wrote up this marvel on Astro Toy this week. When I placed this article in the roundup there were only four comments on the review. Let us improve upon that.
  • Saber the Yokozuna
Time for paper Saber to defeat a sumo cat.
  • Prevent Fate/Stay Night From Ever Happening
I think that is the goal of certain Type-Moon fans who prefer Fate/Zero. But with the new Fate/Zero The Adventure iOS game you can do that outside of terrible fan fiction.
  • To My Side My Noble Einherjar!
Valhalla Knights 3 will have the option of a Saber outfit in the game. If this is something unlockable in the game or DLC has yet to be announced.
  • One More Week
By the time this article is published there will be less than a week until Fate/Extra CCC come on in Japan on March 28th. This final video hints at the new story of CCC and the secrets within.

Ongoing Investigations: Case #207

So we enter the final batch of episodes of Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated S2 with 16-17. While I will miss the show I’m glad they were give the chance to end the series in a tidy manner. Plus I feel overall two seasons feels like a good length for the series. While I would have liked more I don’t feel like I was robbed of anything. But we shall see how much those feelings remain when the series is actually over. Until then we have Aliens Among Us and The Horrible Herd.

After a show goes on break it is always nice to transition back into the series as if you had just watched the previous episode last week. Mystery Incorporated transitions from its big “should have been accompanied by an ominous pipe organ” revelation from Theater of Doom with a general mystery that they solve pretty quickly so they can add in some detective work on the overarching mystery.

Aliens Among Us proved that the funny was still in the series as well. Sheriff Bronson Stone seemed to be taking lessons from Giorgio Tsoukalos this episode. Also Scooby seems to imply that he is so frequently asked to dig up graves as part of their investigations that he has become slightly tired of it. Also the fact that the villains of the episode apparently lives in Frodo’s house for no well explained reason is a quick blink and you miss it gag.

Random Trivia: It seems that the GPS coordinates for Gatorsburg would put in a Warner Bros warehouse in Burbank, California which is amusing little inside joke.

The Horrible Herd on the other hand proves that Professor Pericles is playing for keeps (although killer German Stormtrooper robots is not exactly kid gloves.) There were an interesting amount of subtle Aliens homages in this episode. I am curious how much they are going to deal with the fact that a good deal of town was destroyed in this episode or will they mostly just hand wave it away. With this series either scenario is possible.

I glad to see the series is still going strong entering the endgame. I think this is really destined to be a series people look back on and wonder why it did not have a bigger fan following when it was on the air. Its lovely mixture of parody and homage make it far smarter than you would assume at first glance.

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated how I’ve longed for you!!! Even after a long break, the series hasn’t lost anything. Fred still has the most amazing moments, Daphne is still awesome, and all the mysteries and oddities just keep getting piled on.

Easily the best part in either of these episodes is when Fred and Sheriff Stone have a sleepover because the gang is trying to protect the Sheriff from aliens he believes abducted him. Fred’s insights about love and how the only thing better is traps is full of sage wisdom.

Daphne’s cheese expertise, which I had totally forgotten about, comes back into play when the mass of skeleton-bee-piranha-cows descend on the town.

Throwing in the Space Kook was an excellent nod.

The Ongoing Investigations are little peeks into what we are watching and reading outside of our main posts on the blog. We each pick three things that we were interested in a week and talk a bit about them. There is often not much rhyme or reason to what we pick. They are just the most interesting things we saw since the last Ongoing Investigation.
