The Speakeasy #043: The Dark Knight, Comics for Manga Fans

Drink #043: The Dark Knight
Comics for Manga Fans

We’ve often wondered, just what is it that keeps manga fans from reading the wealth of American comics? In this podcast, we along with our guest Ken from Comics Should Be Good! try to figure that out. We also tackle some of the misconceptions about American comics as well as exploring the genres and discussing the comic book store community. In the second half, we recommend a diverse amount of American comics that may appeal to manga fans. Hopefully, you can walk away with at least one title you may give a chance.

The Speakeasy #042: The Sailor Moon, Some of Our Favorite Magical Girls

Drink #042: Sailor Moon
Some of Our Favorite Magical Girls

The problem with the magical girl genre in America is that there haven’t been a lot of titles to hit the states so you think you know the tropes but do you really? While we are hardly scholars on the subject, we try to at least contextualize maho shojo outside of just being Sailor MoonMagical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. We also talk a bit about our favorite titles.

But before we get to what we talk a bit about the Cosplay is Not Consent movement and the bizzaro backlash against it.
