This just in: Comics okay, Anime still for pervs.

So I have this habit of checking out the site AskMen.com (affiliated with Cosmpolitan.com which I also check) every month or so. I have an interest in how others behave and in the sector of romance and sex these sites are like fountains of information both good and bad (mostly bad) as they distribute advice to the “average man/woman.” In my latest quest, I found a list of perverted behaviors that guys should really keep in check if they want success with the ladies.

Feel free to click that image to read the small text which goes on to say, or rather tell you, that your love of anime is all for perverse reasons though comics have made it into the acceptable realm. This is all so inane first, and most obvious, because of the utter disregard for the medium out of ignorance. And the prods at anime girl depictions is somewhat amusing when compared to the same accusations once being hurled at comics in the past (and still in the present). This seems to reflect how anime is still viewed as so fringe even when it has made inroads. Comics have gained ground in the last decade, thanks in most part to all the film adaptations probably, so is that what it will take for anime? Or does the fact that comic characters are recognizable as such, whereas any upcoming anime adaptions won’t be connected to anything in the minds of the general public not change a thing?  And lastly, they think the majority of readers on their site would relate to such behavior? I don’t know if that is true or not, but it seems unlikely that the “average man” is accustomed to getting his kicks from anime or cosplay.

I have to say in all my browsing this is the first time I came across something anime related. I don’t know if I was really shocked at how it was presented, as I was shocked it was even thought of at all.

The New Adventures of Samurai Deeper Ichigo

Haha! I am a powerful villain. I defeated Ichigo. Look at him have to run away. Now look how I take out these side characters.

Arrrg! We are defeated!

Hoho! I am back and now I have a new power!

Your new power cannot stop me Samurai Deeper Ichigo!

But you are already defeated!

What are you talking about Samurai Deeper Ichigo? Your heart is weak!

You can do it Samurai Deeper Ichigo! I believe in you!

NEW POWER!

NOOOOOO!!! Your new power is too much Samurai Deeper Ichigo!

hisuiconI have enjoyed Bleach for several years now but he problem is that I have felt that the manga’s popularity has led to some padding in the manga. Due to this padding the series has truly fell into a very familiar pattern. A pattern in the same vein of the infamous shonen Samurai Deeper Kyo. One of the main problems with Samurai Deeper Kyo was Kyo never progressed as a character. Most of the time he would simply declare that he had gotten stronger and then he would use a new attack and win. The thing is  Samurai Deeper Kyo is so bad it is entertaining but Bleach has had some grace to its fights and to Ichigo’s progresses. When he leveled up you felt like he had changed as a person as well. Ichigo had to work for it and it showed in the fights. I no longer feel this is the case. I am still entertained enough to buy graphic novels without regrets but I just wanted to use these new mini posts to get that feeling off my chest.

People Still Watch Anime?: A Guide for Fallen Fans

hisuiconRecently my old friend Ben McGraw, make a post request that we  felt was a brilliant idea for the site. He wanted a list of anime that he could watch as someone who loved Cowboy Bebop but had not watched anime since. Regular readers of the blog may have seen most if not all of these shows. That is because this list is not directly for you. This is a list for your friends, family, and coworkers. We picked 10 newer shows that will appeal to fans who have either fallen out of anime fandom or were never that into it in the first place. Everything on this list is licensed, has a dub, and is easy to obtain so there is no major obstacles to overcome when watching any of the shows below.

I know I certainly have friends who aren’t in on the anime scene anymore, so this list is something that runs perfectly along those lines. They are probably never going to stay up on what’s new each season or even want to spend enough time digging through all the new shows to find the ones for them. While this list is of course not the only shows that we would recommend, they all are good, most even great, and have enough to make the impact on fans who have been down and out for a while. It’s not a bad idea to remind people why they started watching anime in the first place.
