New York Comic Con 2015: Believe It!

There were very few guests that could top Takeshi Obata as the marquee manga artist for NYCC 2015. There might be artists with more prestige or influence but for sheer name recognition and popularity you can count the number of creators from Japan who are as well-known in the U.S. on one hand. Masashi Kishimoto, the manga-ka of Naruto, is one of them along with Akira Toriyama, Naoko Takeuchi, or Eiichiro Oda that could fit that bill. Seemingly impossible, Mr. Kishimoto is making a rare U.S. appearance!

It is prime time to get him. Naruto has finished up with the Boruto movie wrapping up one part of his a career but also it is just before he starts his next series. It is the perfect storm of Kishimoto being in the stoplight while not being utterly unapproachable due to the crushing schedule of a weekly manga-ka.

But with four full days of content, we will have a ton of coverage of other manga and anime events as well as plenty of reporting about a wide variety of comics, TV shows, movies, and games. We look forward to seeing you there and/or bringing you tons of coverage from the event!

New York Comic Con 2014: Panels

hisui_icon_4040 There really is only one major downside to having more anime and manga content at NYCC and that is it usually means I have less time for everything else. Since NYCC is really the only comic convention I go to it is usually the place I do all the other types of events related to my other geeky hobbies. So this year I did feel a little guilty that I did not attend more comic and table top gaming related panels. But in my defense I think I would have felt ten times more guilty if I had skipped the anime and manga content.

The again a lot of my life is me trying to minimize my overall guilt over silly things.

narutaki_icon_4040 As usual, at con feedback the crowd bemoaned how they couldn’t get into a single panel despite allegedly lining up hours in advance. Yet, I never lined up more than a hour before anything and attended every panel I waited for. It should be said this is in regards to Hall A, where all of the “smaller” events are held, but still people said this same thing about not being able to get in. So either I have amazing luck, I only attend things no one cares about, or everyone is insane; probably all three in some combination.
