Postmortem: Danganronpa The Animation

A new short podcast series! Sometimes our first impressions in S.W.A.T. Reviews aren’t right. This may result in us continuing a show that goes to hell and we later end up dropping it. We figured our listeners might be curious to hear why we just couldn’t stand to continue on with a series (too bad we weren’t doing this with Valvrave!).

Just like the S.W.A.T. Reviews, these will be five- to ten- minutes long and completely off the cuff. There (hopefully) won’t be too many Postmortems in a season, but you never know.

Interesting to see your criticisms about an ongoing show. Granted, I’m still continuing to watch this (and VVV, for that matter), but I can see what you mean. The characters aren’t really very good here. I guess the game does in fact do more to develop them before everything goes wrong.

Yeah. I just want to make it clear not having played the game I reserve any judgment on it. I think a lot of the things we did not like in the anime could very well be much cooler and more developed in the game. But I just keep getting the feeling as an adaptation the anime is doing a grave disservice to its source material.

I gave Danganronpa another shot. In fact, I am still actively watching it. I just want to know who the mastermind is. Don’t care much about any of the remaining characters, and that Genocyder Sho thing just seemed like an unnecessary character to introduce. Ridiculous.

I will say that one of their recent episodes was its best, and that was the turning point of the series, where the remaining people have a shot at revealing all the mysteries.

I often wonder how people can watch a whole show, and then complain about how bad it is. I guess I’m kinda one of those people now.

I think that Btooom might’ve turned out to be a better show than this, but I didn’t give Btooom more than a handful of episodes.
