Hmm. If I had a holiday wish that had to involve anime and/or manga, I’d say…can we finally move on from the standard wimpy male leads? Or at least have them be likable instead of annoying…
I wish Evangelion 3.0: Q would get a simultaneous worldwide release in 2013. Instead of having to wait a year for the BD.
Oh that’s easy: I wish Madhouse would release Satoshi Kon’s “Dreaming Machine”!
I wish that more of the japan only PSP games were imported to the US.
My one and only wish is that the most engaging, most enrapturing, and best-written piece of escapism I’ve ever come across will be getting more seasons and soon. I’m not sure how I’ve managed with no new episodes of Spice and Wolf for two years, but I don’t think I can handle it much longer.
I’d be wishing for a Shin Great Mazinger to come out in 2012. Directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa. With the opening by JAM PROJECT and ending by FLOW.
I’d love a rerelease of Haibane Renmei!
I wish for Legends of the Galactic Heroes to be released.
My wish was actually recently fulfilled: House of Five Leaves has finally been licensed for a region 1 DVD release! So my new wish is that it will come out on schedule and that there won’t be any delays.
I wish more characters would have real personalities next year.
I wish for Mars to be terraformed so that we can have Neo Venice IRL. (Aria)
If it’s not too much trouble, I would wish for the ability to watch all of the shows I could, so I could give each show a fair shot, especially the shows I’ve heard are wonderful and just don’t have the time of day to get to.
I really wish that Redline makes a killing over in the US and in other countries, hitting the mainstream and bringing in new fans.
I wish Darker than Black would have a sequel.
I wish for Tatami Galaxy, even though Scrooge McFuni has said it’ll never happen :(
Rose of Versailles in English. I may as well be wishing for peace on Earth.
My only wish is that more companies (besides the fantastic Vertical and Discotek) would put more effort into releasing (sub only if need be) old series. True anime classics, not stuff from 10 years ago that Funimation packages as classics.
My ultimate wish would probably be this: more yuri. That means more yuri manga being licensed and released in English, more yuri manga being created in Japan, a bigger yuri fanbase in both Japan and the rest of the world, for the Japanese doujin scene to make more yuri doujinshi that doesn’t involve surprise men joining in for threesomes or futanari in any way, etc. I just want more access to some girl on girl lovin’ in my anime, manga, and fandom experience. Is that so much to ask? ;~;
This message brought to you by: why aren’t there Saber/Irisviel doujins? Oh that’s right because neither of them are dudes so it’s not interesting enough to doujinka. Sob.
As Vertical releases the seventeenth and final volume of Black Jack, my New Year’s wish is to see Hitoshi Iwaaki’s sequel Black Jack: Aoki Mirai released here. Iwaaki is a great writer, and if anyone can capture the spirit of an iconic Tezuka character, it’s him (or Urasawa)!
I’d also love to see Black Jack make cameos in more popular fictional doctor shows~who wouldn’t want to see BJ showing up on Doctor Who or House? Or is that just me? :-)
I would wish for a fully-functional Big O, with Chiaki Konaka as my resident guide on its use, so that I might quiz him on various and sundry topics such as what the ending of Big O was supposed to mean anyway, when the fuck they’re gonna get around to completing Despera, and why for the love of God has he not made another live-action film with Kiyoshi Kurosawa since Door 3 in the nineties?
…And if that’s too outlandish, than I wish that Vertical, in they’re ongoing crusade to get everything Tezuka ever did published in English, God bless their souls, would eventually get around to Rainbow Parakeet (sorry if it’s cheating for me to put two, you can go with the first).
I wish Mawaru Penguindrum is licensed for R1.
I wish Oshaka-sama mo Miteru, the “twin” light novels to Marimite that follows Yumi’s brother at Hanadera, Lillian’s all male private school counterpart, would get an anime. If it’s just as thoughtful and full of subtle character development porn as Marimite except with yaoi (er more like shounenai) instead of yuri then this is a thing that must happen.
Ah,if I could have one wish granted, I wish I could go to Japan and watch the K-ON! Movie in theaters. I wanna see Yui and the gang and all of the adventures they have in the UK. Or they could show the movie in American theaters, either one haha.
I wish that ethnocentric attitudes in the fandom and translation of anime works would recognize the inherent cultural differences between Eastern and Western derivatives and that while localization can lead to mass commercialization for a domestic release that an inherent significant loss of cultural, intellectual, and philosophical traits occurs.
I wish that more current airing anime series would be made available to my fellow deaf peers, since the streaming sites do not cover all the current airing series and we’d have to resort to searching for and downloading fansubs which are made available readily and timely.
I wish an anime would be made about mushrooms, starring mushroom-san the mushy mushroom.
