The Anime and Manga Spirit

We are the champions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting
Till the end

OK. That might be a little overly dramatic but we are not the sort of site to win awards on a regular basis so we might as well celebrate.

FiddleTwix from Anime Madhouse nominated us for a Free Spirit award. It is technically more of a viral writing project than an award proper but it is still an acknowledgement from a fellow blogger that they liked our work enough to tag us in the project. It is so very easy to feel like you’re shouting into the void when you’re blogging so little nods like this put a smile on our faces.

Speaking of which the topic that we were asked to write about was “Little things in life that never cease to put a smile on your face.”

We’re going to center our answers around anime and manga otherwise it will be a post just about hamburgers and being proven right. While that might be amusing on an abstract level we try to keep the blog as on topic as we can.

narutaki_icon_4040 Kate’s picks:

hisui_icon_4040 Alain’s picks:

  • The First REAL Spoiler
Legend of the Galactic Heroes is a series that is easily spoiled by insensitive clods. So far the Space Opera Satellite guys have dodged the big twists andf they have finally got to one of the biggest ones at the end of the first season. Lets hope they can navigate the rest of the minefield successfully.
  • The Savior of Mecha Anime
The Veef Show dives into Blue Comet SPT Layzner. Layzner is one of the mecha shows were it always seems that more people talk about the show than actually have ever watched it. It is mainly know as the show were Akira Toriyama got the idea for Scouter from.
  • It Began in the Earth Year 225
All Geeks Considered jumps on the rewtach podcast bandwagon with Babylon 5. For all the problems and production mishaps that occurred with that series it still remains one of the best space operas on American TV. If you want to watch alongside All Geeks Considered then start with The Gathering. As the pilot for the series it is a great place to start
Side note: There are no immortals fighting for The Prize in this episode.
  • Oaths were Made to be Broken
It turns out that trusting mercenaries is not much better of an idea even if they are mercenaries with an ostensibly religious motivation. Thus the first crusade truly starts.
  • HACK THE PLANET!
Or maybe just tractors. I feel a lot of these open source debates are going to be far more important when cybernetics get popular.
