• You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy
  Kevin from the Method to Madness Podcast gives his 2 part Dragon*Con report. I think it is well represented to the army of slave Leia’s that is the photo for the first part. He participated in the speed dating so I am sure some of you are going to listen just for that.
• Anyone Can Feel Free to Buy This For Me
  Don’t be shy. Anyone can do it. I won’t mind at all. You will be doing me and possibly humanity a great service (but mostly me).
• You Read This Story and You Have to Laugh
  A most unexpected writer was so impressed by Madoka Magica that he has declared he will make his own magical girls story.  It is NOT Mamoru Oshii because the article that mentions he loved Madoka Magica is this one.
• Two Tales of Dead Manga companies
  The ANNCast recently had Jonathan Tarbox of Raijin Comics and CMX and then Mike Kiley of Tokyopop where they talked about the manga companies they used to work for before said companies died in the manga crash.  Some great insights into what was going to behind the scenes in the manga industry.

• New Manga Announcements
  
  • Ball Meets Girl
    This is the new series starting from Chihiro Tamaki of Walkin’ Butterfly fame and Masaya Tsunamoto of Giant Killing greatness. I’m really looking forward to a collaborative sports manga from these two running in a shonen magazine which makes me extra curious.
  • Young Black Jack
    How could one not be excited about more Black Jack manga? Obviously we can expect big differences from Tezuka’s work, but it is still an exciting project. It takes place when Black Jack first starts to be a surgeon. I’m not too familiar with Yu-Go Okuma’s work so I can only wait and see.
  • Christie: London Massive
    Just on the heels of Seven Seas license of Christie High Tension (being renamed Young Miss Holmes) for U.S. release, we hear that the series is getting a sequel. This one features Holmes’s brilliant niece all grown up and continuing to take on mysteries. I’m familiar with the original series, excited about the states release, and looking forward to this sequel!
• The Great MW3 Heist
  Did you care that MW3 was being sold early on eBay? Well, for shame that you missed this way crazier news. In France two masked men rammed a truck and used tear gas to steal it and the 6,000 copies of the game inside. Video games so coveted that people plan heists around them, the modern world is amazing!
• 18 Animated Features Qualify for Oscars
  It is interesting to note that everything foreign is 2D while all but one of the U.S. releases are 3D, granted there are 3 times as many from the U.S. My bets for nominations are on Winnie-the-Pooh, Rango, Rio, Tin Tin, and Cars 2. I don’t think Cars 2 deserves to be there mind, but it is Pixar so I expect it to get a nod. I’d really like to see A Cat in Paris in the running but I don’t know if anything international will make it with so many others out this year. Chico and Rita looks very good but I haven’t had a chance to see it. As far as a winner, I’d like Winnie, hands down, but I’m not really sure that will happen.

  • Manga out Loud and the manga fans side of the NYCC with Erica from the Okazu blog, Melinda from the Manga Bookshelf, and Lissa from Kuriousity.
  • The Ninja Consultants assassinate the NYCC alongside the Ani-Gamers and the Spiraken Manga Review.
• A C is Unacceptable in this House Young Man! 
  A negative review of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception from the Onion launches a furry of negative comments from fans of the series who have not even played the full game. A fascinating look into the somewhat sickly dynamic between reviewers, fans, and media in the video game industry and the Internet in general.
• New Fate/Apocrypha Project to Be Launched by Type-Moon
  Type-Moon Ace 07 has officially announced that Fate/Apocrypha is back on track for production. The same the magazine will also have a demo for the often delayed Witch on the Holy Night. Come on who does not want to play as Shakespeare of the caster class?
• I Am Your Mutant Grasshoppers Baby’s Daddy!
  The Veef looks at the frighteningly bad glorious failure that is Shin Kamen Rider with Dkun from Collection DX just in time for Halloween. A series as long as Kamen Rider is surely going to have some missteps. This is one of them. A big one.
• Enter the Chaos that is the Redline
  The gentlemen of the Chaos Theater podcast look at the cranky Englishman approved movie Redline. Also bonus reviews of the prequel Trava: Fist Planet and the similarly styled Dead Leaves.
• Be the Dorkiest Person to Wear a Letterman Jacket.
  MOVIC will be releasing a line of satin letterman jackets with anime character motifs. They will have jackets with Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai characters on them. Most importantly there will be a jacket with the theme of being pure awesome!

• Preview Drops of God Manga
  If you weren’t picking up this new title from Vertical, Inc. this preview will give you the push you need. The melodrama of pouring and tasting wine has never been more glorious.
• Sweater Girls
  These charming illustrations of DC heroines from Hanie Mohd have a perfect amount of quirk making you want to know their stories. I think I like Supergirl best!
• Plastic Canvas Transformers
  Remember making things using those plastic square cut canvases and yarn? This takes kitchy craft one step higher. Also they actually transform.
• The “Sponser Reel”
  If you have to watch some corporate mubojumbo this is doing it with style. Much of it looks like stop-motion but it is all digital which is pretty impressive.
  
• “Shame Itself” Marvel Superhero Parody
  Poking fun at a genre that you love takes skill and the right sense of humor. This book has a lot of comedic talent as well as comic book talent, and from the looks of things will appeal to new and old fans. It hits shelves this week.

• Anime Diet crew goes to the NYAF where they speak with Hiro Mashima, see the Layton movie, morn the NYAF, (and the part you really care about) attend a session of  speed dating.
• All Geeks Considered Podcast has actual information on the Thursday panels which is neat.
• Just a Reminder that Fate/Extra Comes Out Tomorrow!
  Just making my last push for Fate/Extra before it goes on sale tomorrow. You can also play the really odd flash games for Fate/Extra at the Japanese website for the game or watch the odd little Fate/Extra videos from Type Moon Ace. You should buy it so I can get more Type-Moon items in the US … and because it is a fun game as well.
• The Fate/Zero Blu-ray Disc Box will also have some nice Fate/Extras
  The Blue-ray box for Fate/Zero will come with the holy grail of extras to entice you to buy it: An original story by Kinoko Nasu as well as deleted scenes and a slew of other extras. The scary thing is that it also already comes with English subtitles. I have a nasty feeling that means Aniplex will be offering the straight Japanese box with only slightly below Japanese prices.
• Welcome to Rock and Roll Night! Welcome to Rock and Roll Fight!
  You too can initialize a survival strategy with you own Penguindrum hat! You can also get cute little penguin figures. Speaking of hard to get merchandise we also have THIS.
• 7 Years of Hayate No Gotoku!
  As a major fan of the manga I had to mention that Kenjiro Hata is celebrating the 7th year of publication. Also the limited edition version of the 31st volume is coming with Hayate no Gotoku the Movie: Heaven is a Place on Earth. With a 3rd season on the way I am glad to see Hata is still going strong.
